Get to know Angelica Ortiz
Angelica brings her sweet and spicy flare to class. She walks in at 5:30 a.m. with her sweet smile and then starts to throw on the spice as soon as we do our warm-up, breaking out those salsa moves! You can always catch her busting some moves in between exercises, making us all smile. When her and MaryAnn box together…watch out! You don’t want to be caught on the tail-end of any of their punches! You are one sweet, spicy and fierce woman! Thanks for being part of the iCompete Fitness family Angelica!
What is your favorite snack?
Vanilla Almond Crunch Quest Bar, I love them!
What are your hobbies?
Playing sports with my kids, mainly softball and soccer. Taxing them around to their practices and games.
What is your favorite movie?
Any suspense movie with Morgan Freeman. Two favorites are Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls!
What is something people don’t know about you?
I’ve shared with some in class, but others may not know that 10 years ago I was tipping the scales at 300 lbs! I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004. Although many people believe it’s an easy way out of obesity, IT IS NOT! It’s a daily struggle to battle to keep the weight off. Stomach pouches stretch, sugar and most fatty foods don’t occupy a lot of space in your stomach. The demons of craving these foods remain and affect you well after surgery!
What is your dream vacation?
Despite losing 130 lbs, my dream vacation would be wearing a bathing suit on the beach in Hawaii, but with the catch of looking GOOD in that bathing suit!
What is your favorite color and what does it say about you?
Turquoise; I feel it’s a strong and beautiful color which are my traits, strong and beautiful! 😉 Well, that’s what I psyche myself to believe anyway!
Tell us about your family pet.
We have a pet named Flash. He’s the most well behaved dog, never biting or chewing stuff up, respects boundaries when we’re eating outside, does his business in one part of the yard, kind to the kids, etc. All without ONE DAY of training, it’s his natural behavior. We’re very lucky!
What do you like about iCompete Fitness?
The camaraderie and the way you make most exercises fun! The fun part is why I have been going to your boot camp for over 2 years! Oh gosh..I can’t believe it’s been over two years. I just had to think about that!
What is your favorite exercise at bootcamp?
Boxing for sure!!! You didn’t ask but my least is RUNNING THE CANAL!! I’m not a runner!
What is a healthy habit you have added into your life?
I exercise at least 4 times a week. If i miss boot camp, I’ll run around my block or get my body moving by boxing with my kids or swimming. I’ll occasionally throw in acrobatic exercises with my husband at night! LOL
